Worth the money!!!

We took this tour in June, 2022. This was a great tour! We rode on a nice bus that was air conditioned and very comfortable. The drive is very nice with changing scenery and a nice stop at a local store for sandwiches. The bus driver is amazing and talented - you'll see what we are talking about when you get to the Amalfi Coast! Pompeii is amazing. You will have an Archeologist as a Guide and she did a great job. Very knowledgeable. This site is remarkable. We learned so much and really enjoyed a peek into the ancient lifestyle and living accommodations. We then traveled to the Amalfi Coast, switched into a smaller bus and traveled a short distance to Siena. What a drive and what an amazing coastline. Just beautiful. We had time to explore Siena and enjoy a Gelato and do a little shopping. Our Guide was Federico. He was really good! He is a proud Roman and he's a talker with great knowledge and humor. He speaks good English and is a foodie. He told us a lot about Italian food and how to spot bad restaurants from good restaurants. He is high energy and fun! We really enjoyed this tour and would highly recommend.

Disappointing

I didn’t like that we had so little time at Amalfi Coast! It was sad, spend most of the time at the bus… 😒 Disappointing! The only good thing was Matias the tour guide, he was very knowledgeable and give a lot of information!

Dear grisellemiranda7, Thank you for your review! For this tour, as we are coming from Rome, we do need to spend a bit of time on the bus to get to and from the Amalfi Coast. This is something we are taking into consideration to make this itinerary better. I'm so glad to hear your lovely review of Mattias. I agree, he's very informative and so fun to listen to! Thank you again for providing feedback. Without your feedback, we cannot improve our tours! Best, Amanda

This is our first time here. Pompeii was very impressive. It is larger than I thought. It is like being in a time capsule. Our guide was very knowledgeable. The amalfi coast was beautiful and the town of Positano was really great. I would have liked more time there, like maybe a week.

Cossimo (main guide), Francesca (Pompeii) and Roberto (driver) were all wonderful. Cossimo was a wealth of knowledge not only about Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast and Positano but also about Rome and Italy, in general. Highly recommend!

Our tour guide was knowledgeable and organized. He made sure everyone is comfortable inside the van. Though our time on the stops to take pictures in scenic views were limited but overall it was a great experience. I would recommend this tour.

Long but worth it

It’s a long day but well worth it. Bus was comfortable and we stopped once on the way down and once on the way back to stretch our legs. The tour guides were excellent and Pompei was interesting. Positano was beautiful. Some people swam but we had lunch and shopped.

It was a great experience with very good guides and driver. It was a long day, but well worth it. The van is a great way to see the Amalfi coast.

OK tour with super uncomfortable tour bus

The bus was tiny so super uncomfortable for almost 8 hours on the bus. Understanding the location is far from Rome, there was little ‘touring’ until Pompeii which was fantastic.

This was a fantastic tour!

We enjoyed the trip very much. Our guide Guilio spoke clearly and gave us lots of interesting information along the way. He was pleasant and accommodating while still kept us on schedule. Our Pompeii guide Ilaria was highly educated on the topic and was very interesting, humorous, entertaining. Our bus driver was a real pro especially on those scary hairpin curves at Positano. I didn’t experience any fear or even have to close my eyes. It was an excellent trip that I highly recommend.

The p2 trip

Pompeii was definitely a must see. The guide (Francesco) added a lot of facts and color to the story making it come to life. Positano I felt was not really worth it… It added hours to the trip and is not as picturesque as parts of Cinque Terre If I were to do it again I would do just Pompeii Positano for 2 hrs after so many hours of driving is not worthwhile If you are interested I would suggest actually staying there overnight

Great day despite the long drive

Great day trip from Rome! Our tour guide for the day, Ilaria, was great..very organized and sweet. Bus driver, Roberto did a great job. Our tour guide at Pompei, Ilaria, was outstanding!! The day is very long but worth it if a day trip is all you can fit into your travel schedule. Only disappointment/suggestion for improvement would be to NOT use the microphone on the bus and instead use the ear piece provided to us for the Pompei tour the entire time. Even sitting just beside Ilaria on the bus I could not hear much of what she said While the bus was moving, especially on the highway. Ilaria was very soft spoken and the microphone system was very poor. Definitely wear a hat or take an umbrella for Pompei! Overall, great day and I’m glad I went!

Great tour guides. Very knowledgeable and personable. Liked both our guides: Andreas and our guide in Pompeii. However very chaotic check in process.

Jammed in the back row of a bus with almost no window access
ljross141
, May 2022
The bus was an hour late, they told us because more people showed up (like they didn't know because you have to book before hand). We spent more time in Positano than we did in Pompeii. Pompeii a short 1 1/2 hr where mostly the tour guide talked as we stook somewhere. We did not get water as promised (until the end of the tour), we did not go to a gift shop, we only saw a few highlights. Very disappointing. The WORST part of the trip was the vehicle. 3 of our 4 were jammed into the back of the vehicle, with limited expsoure to looking out a window due to the extra height of the back seat, and the curtains. The seat directly in front of me (I was in the back row) was broken and he could not get it to sit up straight, so I was jammed into a little corner of the bus. At one point the gentleman told me there was an empty seat behind the tour guide and seeing as I was getting claustraphobic at that point, I made my way up there, just to find out she had her personal items on the seat and floor. I did my best to jam myself sideways into the seat for a bit, she never once offered to remove items to overhead. Finally I ended up back in the back row jammed in. We each paid $250 for this excursion, just like everyone else who had a seat with full window access. There was never an offer to move people about, and with 3 hrs both there and back, you can only imagine how uncomfortable we were. Nothing was done to realize this, nor to help us out. We never should have paid the same price as everyone else, and then received this sub-standard seating. The tour guide spoke English, but her accent was so poor, people never listened to her, but talked through the entire time she was talking, and made comments, like was that in Italian? No idea what she was saying. So from lying right at the beginning about why we didn't have a bus for an hr, to jamming us into these tiny back seats with no very limited access to seeing anything above street level, we paid a lot of money for a very poor quality trip. As a side note, there was another seat on the bus that was broken. That gentleman could not keep his seat upright either (but it was his large group around him) and he could actually slide it out into the aisle somewhat. Seeing as most of the bus was one large group, we were definitely treated like the poor relations. This was my first time booking with Viator at the recommendation of my travel agent, and you can be well assured, this will be my LAST time booking with Viator. This is not an acceptable way to be treated for a group paying $1000. The entire bus ride ruined my excitement as going to Pompeii. And then to only have 1 1/2 hrs there, it was by far my worse experience in my 3 weeks in Europe.

A fabulous day trip!

Our guides to Positano and Pompeii, Andy and Ilaria, were excellent - informative, friendly, and accommodating to our group. Andy was our guide on the bus and in Positano. He gave us a great deal of information, both practical and historical, on the way down and as we came back up the coast to Pompeii, doing it with humor and style. Our guide in Pompeii, Ilaria, is an expert in the field of archeology and clearly knows the area and its history and culture as well as anyone. We loved our day with them and our fearless driver, Bruno. It is a long day and we happened to run into weekend traffic on the way home, but this trip is highly recommended. You must wear sturdy walking shoes for Pompeii as some of the roads consist of original stones and are quite uneven. Sandals are not a safe choice. Also be prepared to walk back up the hill from the beach in Positano. Another 2 places checked off of my bucket list!
