This activity will end right where it started.
Get an early start to make the most of the fresh tropical morning, and meet your guide at the launch point near the Wailua River, Kauai’s only navigable waterway. Get outfitted with a provided kayak, paddle, and life vest, and store your belongings in a dry bag before setting off on the gentle currents.

Soak up the verdant jungle scenery and views of volcanic peaks in the distance on a 2-mile (3.2-km) paddle upriver towards the north fork. Feel transported back in time as you pass by the traditional huts of Kamokila Village and hear tales of the native Hawaiian people who once lived around and traveled the river more than 1,500 years ago.

Take a break from paddling to explore the rain forest by foot on a moderate hike to the Ulewehi Waterfall, where you’ll be rewarded with views of the majestic falls cascading 120 feet (36 meters) down a mountain cliff. Recharge with a riverside picnic lunch of fresh and healthy island fare including vegetarian options before hopping back in your kayak for the return trip to the starting point.

Nathan was an excellent guide. He was knowledgeable and friendly. The Wailua River was calm and beautiful. And it was quiet. Our hike was so fun as we crossed a lot of different terrain. At some parts you are going through a tight trail and the vegetation literally brushes your face. Fording across the river in waist high water was exhilarating. Rocks can be a bit slippery but our water shoes handled it well. The waterfall was amazing. We did an early adventure and within minutes of arriving the group before us left and we had the waterfall to our small group. It was beautiful and peaceful. The pool was refreshing. The sites were breathtaking. Even the chickens were amazed. We had a sandwich lunch with excellent Hawaiian chips and Nathan cut up a pineapple for us. The paddle back was just as good even though the sun had come out by then. Nathan got us back to our meeting point and I immediately wanted to do it again. What a great experience!

Great adventure, but not as easy as it sounds!

The Kayak Adventure, with Nathan as our guide, was an amazing experience. Although the rain the night before made the stream crossing and trail conditions a little more treacherous than I was prepared for, it was a beautiful, not to be missed, adventure. Swimming in the Secret Falls is a memory I will treasure. Thank you Nathan for giving me a helping hand as crossed the slippery rocks in the stream. What a great day.

Gabriel made this tour! He was knowledgeable, helpful, interesting, and so pleasant to be around. The kayaking was not difficult and the hike to the falls was beautiful. Gabe filled it with plant and bird information (and we even got to see his trained birds!!). Wear shoes that won’t come off in the water! Lunch was just ok but very welcome.

What a fun day! Our guide, Erickson, was amazing. This was a great family day. My 12 year old was not happy that I made him join us on this adventure. BUT, he was so happy and loved every minute of it. He told us it was his favorite day so far on our vacation!

Loved hearing Erickson tell us all about the flora & fauna along the way and the historical information we passed by. Erickson was amazing and fully committed to our comfort and enjoyment. The hike was more challenging than described and involved slippery mud & walking through knee-deep water & narrow root-riddled paths, so water shoes w/gripping soles are needed.
